Queenstown Airport Retaining Wall

SCOPE:

Signal Management Group (SMC) engaged Grant Hood Contracting for the earthworks and construction of a retaining wall at the south-eastern end of a large future development site.

The project involved the construct of a retaining wall on the common boundary of its land, to a maximum nominal height of 1.5m.

The retaining wall was to be built with timber post retaining wall along the boundary to support only the ground at the existing level. This will be nominally 1.5m high.

The ground was highly permeable and thus ground water issues were not anticipated, however, free draining granular fill was placed behind the wall with the intention of disposing ground water by infiltration rather than piping to the existing stormwater reticulation system on Hawthorne Drive.

The project was on completed on schedule and to building to the requirements.
